Small fridge.
Big heart.

FridgeFind helps neighbors in East Flatbush, Flatbush, and Flatlands find free food nearby. We help keep fridges and pantries stocked, person to person.

A fridge map built for neighbors.

FridgeFind shows real fridges and pantries around you, so you can see what's nearby and what's actually inside before making the trip. Neighbors can mark what a location needs, and others can help restock. Just people helping people find something to eat.

  1. 1

    See what's actually nearby.

A map of real fridges and pantries in The Flats — with the ones closest to you first.

  2. 2

Know what's inside before you go.

Neighbors mark what a fridge has and what it's missing, so nobody walks over for an empty shelf.

  3. 3

    Restock in a few taps.

If you've got extra, post it. If a spot needs something, say so. Person to person, no middleman.

Why I built this

Who's the one behind the fridge?

Jay Li, EcoPower intern and creator of FridgeFind

My name is Jay, and I grew up as the restaurant stereotype. My parents came to this country in 2014 with almost nothing in their suitcases. They opened a small restaurant in Queens, and no matter how thin things got for us, one thing never changed: if someone walked through that door hungry, they ate. Neighbors. Single moms. People who didn't have anywhere to sleep that night. My parents never made anyone explain themselves, or ask twice, to get a plate of food. They taught me that dignity and a full stomach aren't two things you choose between.

I'm an EcoPower intern at Brooklyn Level Up, and FridgeFind started as my own side project — a way of keeping that same promise my parents kept, for the neighborhood I'm working in now. It's not an official program yet. It's one intern, some code, and a question I couldn't stop thinking about: why should "is there enough?" be something anyone in The Flats has to ask?

Got Questions? We've got answers!

Is this an official Brooklyn Level Up program?

No. It's a personal side project I built during my EcoPower internship. Nothing here is an organizational commitment or a public launch.

Do I need to sign up or prove anything?

Never. Free food should not come with paperwork. There's no account, no ID, and no questions. We only require any potential partners to provide us with personal information.

Which neighborhoods does it cover?

East Flatbush, Flatbush, and Flatlands. This is where FridgeFind begins. Hopefully, it grows to reach the whole city one day!

How do I add a fridge or pantry I know about?

Reach out to info@bklvlup.org! We would love to expand our partnerships.

What happens next?

We are currently working on advancing the prototype and locating potential organizations for collaboration. We plan to create pop-ups across The Flats for people to free food as well.
